Health Improvement Practitioner

Location – Hokitika
Rate: $94,500 per annum (1 FTE)
Hours: 0.6 FTE
Type: Permanent, part-time

The West Coast Primary Health Organisation is a non-government organisation (NGO) that exists to improve the wellbeing of the people of the beautiful West Coast. As a community trust we are governed by a Board of Trustees with representation from the health workforce, Māori health providers, iwi, and the local community. At the PHO we are committed to growing and supporting primary care in our communities, providing top quality healthcare services, and working to eliminate health inequities.

We are looking for Health Improvement Practitioners (HIP) to work in either  Hokitika and Greymouth. Our HIP’s are embedded into General Practice teams and offer free consultation-based behavioural interventions to families, group and individuals. You will work collaboratively with the wider Practice team and the team at the PHO to support the patient to identify and activate behavioural changes to improve their wellbeing.

A little more about you:

  • Relevant qualification in psychology, occupational therapist, social worker or mental health nursing
  • Relevant professional registration with a current NZ practising certificate e.g: counsellor, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, social worker or nursing
  • Experience working with youth and adults using evidence based brief intervention strategies eg: CBT, ACT and FACT
  • Previous experience working in a GP, primary care and/or community setting with a willingness to engage in evidence-based psychological brief interventions training and work in line with the stepped care model
  • Knowledge of, and experience in applying, the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in your work
  • The ability to engage effectively with clients, GP teams and other health professionals.
  • A true passion and desire to help others with empathy and compassion.
